Looking for an AND

I have been seeing so many things about dog rescues. One of them even said they spent $20k rehabilitating a single dog.

I am really touched by the things I see. If there is a video, I often find myself emotional. I am so glad that people care, and want to help.

Here's the thing, though. Where are the stories and videos about helping PEOPLE? What could $20k do for a person?

I know there are stories about people, so I don't want to make it sound like I believe there are not. But the thing is, it seems to me the pet stories are more frequent. It also seems people are more willing to pay money toward a pet's surgery than help another human being asking for help.

Does anyone else see something off about this picture/reality? Please tell me it  is not just me.

This is NOT to say pets should not be helped. This is not a conversation about either/or. I am just looking for an AND.
