Poem (The Year's Many Currents)

I wrote this for a friend's 30th Birthday.

The Year's Many Currents
Elizabeth Alraune

The year's many currents
have carved you in tis rocks
Your strength
Your endurance
are some of its finest blocks

Thirty years ago when you were born
the lines were there -
but not clearly drawn

As you grew
Nature drew
With the loving touch
deserved by someone who
means so much

The picture
while intact,
surely
does lack

There is
so much
left to fill
in ways
only you
will

In this picture
nature takes pride
And can't wait
to see what more
you have inside

What more you'll add remains
to be seen
And you'll never know
just what
it will mean
