I was just looking at my old report cards.
In third grade my teacher commented, "Elizabeth is a lovely child. She can do better work and will if she talks a bit less."
In fourth grade my teacher commented, "If anything, Elizabeth is too quiet. She should mingle more with her peers. Perhaps membership in a club (like girl scouts) will help her to become more out-going."
I never noticed that before. At the end of third grade we moved and I changed schools. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Although being a stranger in a strange land, and away from my best friend, I could see how I might not be all that comfortable.
I can't help but wonder, too, if somehow I was told to stop talking so much in third grade, so I did.
There is so much of my childhood I do not remember.
